There are Pep cell phone specials running most of the time, at all of the chain store branches. Cheap mobile phones are available at any of the Pep stores, but if you are looking for something that costs under R200, don’t expect the phone to come with fancy features. They don’t only sell phones like this; there are some good Nokia and Samsung mobiles available that cost a bit more. Most of the branches have a range of MTN, Cell C and Vodacom phones so you are able to choose which phone you want, hoping it is on the network you prefer, otherwise you can get a sim swap. This is simply when you use another network, while still using your old number.

They mostly advertise their promotions on TV, but you are also likely to find the Pep cell phone specials in newspapers and in-store. When you visit your nearest branch to pick up one of the cheap mobile phones they have for sale, remember to take along your Identity Document as well as proof of residence so that you can be register for Rica. It doesn’t matter whether you are purchasing a cheap Nokia or an expensive Samsung; all sim cards have to be registered with Rica before they can be used. You do not pay to register and it can be done at any of the Pep stores nationwide.

Keep an eye out for any promotions they have, but if you have a Pep Stores nearby, pop in every now and then to see what they have. Even when their phones aren’t on special they are not expensive, so give them a try anyway. The phones are likely to be priced differently according to their network, so a phone that costs R250 on MTN might cost R230 on Vodacom or Cell C, or the other way around. So have a look at everything they have before making a final decision on which of the Pep cell phone specials you are interested in.
